Mississippi Hunter Jumper Association to host clinic

The Mississippi Hunter Jumper Association will host a clinic conducted by Otis M. Brown, Jr., a third-generation horseman and former member of the United States Equestrian Team, Nov. 4-5 at Providence Hill Farm in Flora.

All proceeds will benefit the equestrian improvements to the Canton Multipurpose Complex.

Brown has trained numerous "Horse of the Year" award winners and has won over $250,000 for owners of young horses in the International Hunter Futurity. He has also employed and trained several young professionals now competing at International levels. He is donating his time to promote the Canton efforts to build a regional equestrian center along Mississippi 22.

The proposed equestrian improvements to the Canton Multipurpose Complex will cost about $1.5 million.

Construction of the first phase of the improvements is scheduled to commence in December 2006.

The Otis Brown clinic is open to MHJA members first, then non-members. A rider or trainer may audit the clinic for a fee of $25.

The three groups of six to eight riders will ride for two hours on Saturday and on Sunday, and flatwork will be included. A special session for Quarter Horse riders who compete in the hunter classes at AQHA shows will be scheduled on request.
