Madison Advantage

Transportation

Madison County is at the center of "the Crossroads of the South." Its transportation hub includes a major North South route in Interstate 55. U.S. Highways 49 and 51 traverse Madison County as well. Two main line railroads are located in Madison County. Jackson International Airport is located approximately five miles south of Madison County and the Vicksburg Mississippi River Port is located 70 miles away. All of these services are available at substantially less than average costs and without the congestion of major metropolitan areas.

Health Care

An excellent level of health care is available in Madison County. Madison County has access to several healthcare facilities that are nationally ranked as well as physicians from every specialty. Being part of the metropolitan Jackson area allows the citizens of Madison County to easily access the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, a nationally renowned medical school and medical research facility that opened in 1995.

Commitment to Economic Development

A spirit of cooperation can be found throughout the county. By citizens taking active roles in local issues such as education, Madison County shows its commitment to producing a thriving economy. We realize that businesses have special needs and considerations. In order to accommodate those needs, city and county departments are structured, as well as staffed, to be flexible and understanding to private businesses. Business permits can be obtained easily without the hassle found in most large cities.

Favorable Tax Structure

Madison County businesses enjoy one of the lowest county tax rate structures in Mississippi. To support and facilitate economic development, the county offers all the industrial tax incentives available under Mississippi law. A permanent Freeport Warehouse exemption is available on applicable inventory. Add to this the fact that personal taxes, unemployment taxes and workers' compensation premiums are among the lowest in the nation. This translates into businesses keeping more of their profits and workers keeping more of their earnings.

Dependable Utilities

Entergy and CenterPoint Energy offer efficient, clean power supply to Madison County. While these companies meet the utility needs of the county, municipal and association owned wells meet the water demands. Sewage lagoons and water treatment facilities are utilized for waste treatment. Incentives such as free-line extensions and reduced rates are available to industries. Not only are residential rates economical, but the utilities also provide dependable systems, which allow sophisticated computer networks to operate without interruption.
